The Florida PKU Foundation mission is to educate individuals about PKU and support families that are challenged by the demands of PKU.
PKU is a rare inherited metabolic disorder in which individuals are born without an enzyme necessary for processing a specific part of protein called phenylalanine (PHE). If untreated, high levels of PHE can affect brain development, resulting in mental retardation and neurological disorders.
